Knights earn awards
NORWAY — Norway High School softball stood out in the classroom and diamond for the 2019 season.
The Knights, under coach Robert (Kuba) Bal, posted a 3.4 grade point average in making the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association’s academic all-state team.
Individual academic honors went to three seniors with 4.0 grade point averages — Allison Sheski, Ada VanHolla and Haley Clifford.
VanHolla, a senior third baseman, and freshman utility player Averie Popp received honorable mention honors on the MHSSCA Division 4 all-state squad.
VanHolla and Popp landed all-region laurels with senior outfielder Clifford, senior catcher Sheski and freshman shortstop Kali Stanchina.
The all-district first team consisted of VanHolla, Stanchina, Sheski, Clifford and Popp. Senior pitcher Mariah Gyselinck, senior outfielder Holly Mattia and junior first baseman Katlyn Hosking are on the second team.
