Saturday’s Lake Antoine Classic has a variety of events

IRON MOUNTAIN — The 42nd annual Lake Antoine Classic will be held on Saturday at Lake Antoine Park.

The Classic is an annual event that supports the Dickinson-Iron Special Olympics athletic programs.

The event beings at 9 a.m., with registration from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Participants can register by downloading an entry form at lakeantoineclassic.com or registering online at runsignup.com. Entry fees range from $20 to $30, depending on the event. Participants under 12 years old can register for $10. The first 150 registrants receive a race t-shirt.

The Lake Antoine features a variety of competitive and noncompetitive events. Noncompetitive events include a 2-mile walk, a 5-mile walk and a 15K bike ride. Competitive events include a 2-mile run, a 5-mile run and a 15K run.

All participants will receive water from several water stations along each course and refreshments after the race.

Approximately 65 athletes participate in the Dickinson-Iron Special Olympics programs.

These programs include snowshoeing, cross country skiing, basketball, swimming, track and field, bocce, golf, and bowling. The athletes also participate in the State Winter Games in Traverse City in February and the State Summer Games in Mount Pleasant in June.

According to Laura Doney, area director for the Dickinson-Iron Special Olympics, “The Lake Antoine Classic is a great fundraiser for our local Special Olympics programs. We very much appreciate the support from the sponsors, the organizing committee, the volunteers, and all the participants.”

Systems Control is the largest sponsor of the event, funding the t-shirts for participants and volunteers.

Other sponsors include First National Bank, Tadych Family Market and the Dickinson County Healthcare System. Event sponsors cover all costs for the event, ensuring entry fees go directly to Special Olympics.
