All-conference runner leads Florence cross country

FLORENCE, Wis. — The 2019 season for the Florence Bobcats coed cross country team will be one with two different size rosters. The girls team has returning runners, some of them letterwinners from a season ago. The boys team has just one runner, freshman Seth Axley.

“We are sadly lacking runners for the boys team” said coach Karen Harrison. “Seth has no varsity experience, but did run in the middle school program. I am excited to watch him develop into a strong runner.”

The girls roster consists of seven runners. Senior Faith Neuens, named all- Northern Lakes Conference a year ago, is joined by fellow seniors and returning letter winners Kathleen Selden and Julia Hallgren. Also returning from last year’s squad is sophomore Audrey Selden.

New to this year’s team is sophomore Kiera Selden, as well as freshmen Caitlyn Kelley and Crystal Leffler. Harrison noted that Paige Uren is unable to join the team this year due to an injury.

The team’s first meet of the season at Lake Lundgren Bible Camp in the Dunbar area, hosted by Goodman-Pembine, was on Sept. 5. Axley finished 16th in the boys race and Neuens finished 12th in the girls race. The girls team placed fifth out of nine teams. There were approximately 50 runners in each race.

The next race for the Bobcats is Sept. 17 at Crandon International Off Road Raceway. Roster follows:

GIRLS

SENIOR – Julia Hallgren, Faith Neuens, Kathleen Selden.

SOPHOMORE – Audrey Selden, Kiera Sullivan.

FRESHMAN – Caitlyn Kelley, Crystal Leffler.

BOYS

FRESHMAN – Seth Axley.
