G-P boys run to third

CRANDON, WI — A different type of race was held at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway than what the facility usually sees. Cross country runners took to the off-road raceway on Tuesday afternoon.

The Laona-Wabeno Logrollers swept the team portion of the event, the boys earning a meet best 21 team points, to Crandon’s 51. Goodman-Pembine was third with 56 points. In the girls race, the Lady Logrollers slipped past Three Lakes-Phelps 41 to 42. Suring finished third with 57 points, followed by Crandon with 89 points and the Florence Lady Bobcats rounded out the field with 97 team points.

Top area finisher in the boys race was Florence freshman Seth Axley, who placed sixth overall with a time of 20:37.7. Axley is the lone boy on the Florence squad. Matthew Seeber of Laona-Wabeno won the boys race with a time of 17:47.0.

Kevin Strietzel of Goodman-Pembine finished 10th overall.

In the girls race, the Volk sisters of Three Lakes-Phelps paced the field. Freshman Kallie finishing with a time of 21:00.9 seconds to finish in first place, only 49-seconds ahead of her sister Kortnie, a senior, who finished with an official time of 21:49.4. Senior Faith Neuens of Florence was the top area finisher with a time of 23:53.6, placing 11th overall.

Both Florence and Goodman-Pembine’s next meet comes Thursday, Sept. 26, at Three Lakes.
