NMU routs McKendree

MARQUETEE, Mich. – Using a team effort that saw both sides of the ball make big plays, the Northern Michigan University Football team opened the 2019 season with a 30-9 victory over McKendree University.

The Wildcats ran for a total of 138 yards. Freshman Tyshon King led the way with 80 yards.

Ryan Johnson finished the day 10-14 for 130 yards and three touchdowns for the first time of his career. Ravon Johnson tallied three catches for 36 yards while Benjamin Loutsis caught two passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Knight finished with two catches as well and had 29 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, sophomore Isaac Darkangelo notched eight tackles and two quarterback hurries. Sophomores Jack Reiger, Anthony Ladd and Kingsford’s Trevor Roberts each had five tackles.

Senior Demarious Wright, Ager, and junior Brady Hanson all had a pass break up while Wright and redshirt freshman Antonio Howard Jr. finished with two tackles for loss. Hanson and Ager also had a tackle for loss.

The Wildcats, 1-0 on the season, will now look ahead to their trip to Texas next week to take on the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on September 14.
