Gene Farrington serves as honorary Flivvers captain

GENE FARRINGTON

KINGSFORD — A recognizable face to the Flivver Nation, Gene Farrington at 93 years young, remains a loyal and true Flivvers fan.

Farrington, this season’s honorary football captain, grew up in Kingsford in the 1930s and 40s. He attended Roosevelt Elementary School, West Breitung Grade School, and Garden Village before graduating from Kingsford High School in 1944.

After graduation, Farrington left for the U.S. Navy serving on the Underwater Demolition Team (now commonly known as the U.S. Navy Seals) until the end of World War II.

After the war, Farrington returned home to Kingsford where in 1950 he married Doris Mariucci, the love of his life. Together they raised five children, all proud graduates of Kingsford High School. Gene and Doris both retired from Wisconsin Electric.

Farrington has been an active supporter of the school and its athletic programs throughout the past 60-plus years. He has served on the school board and as an active member and past president of the KHS Athletic Booster Club.

He speaks proudly of the Booster Club’s contributions. He is particularly proud of the football stands and facilities and wants to acknowledge the fantastic Flivver fans.

Always young at heart, Farrington continues to support his beloved Flivvers attending numerous events throughout the year, including most football games.
