Volleyball districts scheduled

IRON MOUNTAIN — With the regular season wrapping up this week, the MHSAA girls volleyball districts have been drawn and the schedules set. The schedule, location at times for all area teams are as follows:

The Kingsford Flivvers and head coach Jaclynn Kreider are in Division 2, in a five-team district. The Flivvers host the Houghton Gremlins Monday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. in the Kingsford Middle School Gym.

If they defeat Houghton, Kingsford would host Escanaba in a round two game. That game would be on Wednesday, Nov 6, also at 6 p.m. The finals would be at either Gladstone or Menominee on Friday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m.

Iron Mountain and West Iron County are in the same Division 3 district. Coach Brenda Grubbs’ Wykons and coach Jeanne Newberry’s Mountaineers are assigned to the Ironwood district.

IM has a first round bye and wil await the winner of the Ironwood versus L’Anse. The Mountaineers would host L’Anse but would have to travel to Ironwood to face the host Red Devils. That match, regardless of location, would take place on Wednesday, Nov 6 at 6 p.m. IM would host the finals of the entire district on Thursday Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. if they win versus L’Anse or Ironwood.

West Iron hosts the Hancock Bulldogs in the first round, Monday, Nov 4, at 6 p.m. and, if victorious, would host the next game on Wednesday, Nov 6, against Calumet.

The Norway Knights and first-year coach Erika Harnden, also in Division 3, are assigned to the Westwood district. Norway hosts their first round matchup Monday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. The Knights’ opponent is Bark River-Harris, with the winner to travel to the winner of Westwood and Gwinn on Wednesday Nov. 6. If reaching the finals, Norway would be the host for a Thursday, Nov. 7, game.

In a Division 4 district, the Stephenson Eagles are the host and drew a bye in round one. The Eagles await the winner of the Hannahville at North Dickinson on Monday Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium in Felch. In the other first round matchup in this district, Carney-Nadeau will travel to North Central to take on the Jets, also on Monday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m.

The Forest Park Trojans will travel to the face the winner of the NC-Carney matchup, in round two. That match will take place on Wednesday Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. The finals of the district will be held at Stephenson, Hannahville or North Dickinson on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m.
