Bobcats rip NLC foe

PHELPS, Wis. — Three players scored in double figures as Florence opened its Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball season Friday with a 62-39 win over Phelps.

“Overall it was sloppy game,” said Florence coach Bryan Bomberg. “We didn’t shoot extremely well but we did some good things on the defensive side of the ball.”

Riley Hixon’s 19 points paced the Bobcats, who had previously lost five straight to the Knights. Kaden Schuls added 14 points, five steals and four assists. Evan Johnson netted 12 points to go with four assists and a team-leading 12 rebounds.

Preston Stoltz and Lucas Krueger scored five points each for the Bobcats, with Stoltz snaring 10 boards.

Florence (2-0, 1-0) will host Lena on Monday.
