College Wrestling – Bolo fifth in Cleveland tournament

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Iron Mountain’s Aaron Bolo competed in the Cleveland State Open tournament at Cleveland State University.

The Central Michigan University redshirt sophomore, who wrestled in the 197-pound bracket, went 4-1 which led to a fifth-place finish.

Bolo won by decision 5-0 over Mason McCready of Bucknell in his first match. In his second match of the day, he lost by an 11-5 decision to Kevin Snyder of Ohio State.

In Bolo’s third match, he went on to a major decision Mike Viramontes of Notre Dame College 13-2.

In the fourth match, Bolo topped Benjamin Smith of Cleveland State 11-9 in overtime.

To complete the day, Bolo pinned Cole Nye of the University of Pittsburgh at 2:22 of the first period in the fifth-place match.

Bolo was among a handful of his teammates that attended the individual tournament. Bolo added that he volunteered to attend the event for the mat experience.

Bolo and the Chippewas return to team action Sunday, Dec. 29, and Monday, Dec. 30, at the Midlands Tournament in Chicago, hosted by Northwestern University.
