Flivvers resume year with Gremlin Splash
HOUGHTON — Kingsford made a medal-haul at the Gremlin Splash Invitational high school swim meet Saturday.
The Flivvers went up against host Houghton. Ishpeming/Negaunee and Gladstone.
“Our team did really well considering all of the time off for the holidays and bad weather,” said Coach Jim Lindstrom. “We really have been thrown off our training schedule. With medals for first, second and third, we did very well.”
Many Flivver first-year swimmers attempted new races “with some very good results.”
MacKenzie Gilroy swam the 200 breaststroke to a second in her first try at that distance. First-year swimmer Andrew Nelson swam the 100 free to a second and Noah Richmond was runner-up in 50 fly. Kaden Matuszewski was third in the 200 breaststroke.
“It was nice to see our new swimmers doing so well,” Lindstrom said. “Our experienced core of swimmers also had a great meet.
“Samantha and Sydney Scott along with Kendall Johnson for the girls really stood out. Kolby Raiche, Luke Sturm, John Lundholm and Caleb Voss also had an excellent meet.”
Mixed 500 crescendo relay has two boys and two girls swimming 50, 100, 150 and 200 freestyles. Flivvers recorded a first with Sydney Scott, Luke Sturm, Samantha Scott and Kolbe Raiche; and third with Kendall Johnson, Noah Richmond, Maggie Menghini and John Lundholm.
Kingsford returns to Houghton on Thursday.
