Flivvs split at IM

Mariucci Invite Saturday at KHS

IRON MOUNTAIN — On Thursday, the Kingsford wrestling team competed in a quadrangular match at Iron Mountain. The Flivvers went 1-1 defeating Iron Mountain 36-19 and losing to Gladstone 36-42.

“We had a good night of wrestling, with our younger guys competing in some tough matches. Iron Mountain, if they had their full line up would be very tough to beat. They are depleted with injuries so we just had a few matches against them.” said Kingsford head coach Darren Groleau.

Against Iron Mountain, Josh Peterson lost to a tough match to Preston Roberts at (140). Trent Maki went up to (160) and wrestled Brent Aman and lost via injury but was able to compete against Gladstone.

“Alaster Johnson had a great match against Brandon Farragh lost 6-10. Farragh beat Alaster earlier in the year but Alaster wrestled tough and brought it to a one-point match with a minute to go. We are proud of the way he competed in that match.” Groleau said.

Josh Peterson (140), Toby Wilcox (145) , Ben Standish (215) and Eddie Cardew (Hwt) got pins like the coaches expected out of them against Gladstone, Groleau noted.

“Michael Hill-Scott (135) and Logan Couillard (160) both needed to step up and they both got those huge pins for us. Elliot Johnson (189) and Trent Maki (160) both wrestled really tough against their opponents as well.” Groleau said.
