High School Hockey — Flivvers zip Ashland

IRONWOOD – Behind two goals from Trey Bociek, Kingsford blanked Ashland 3-0 Saturday at the Pat O’Donnell Dome.

Kingsford scored a goal in each period of the non-conference matchup, out shooting the Ore Dockers 36-16.

“The first period was good, generating some offense and getting scoring opportunities,” Flivvers head coach Greg Wadge said. “The second and third periods weren’t as good as the first, but today was a great overall team effort.”

Wadge also noted that the boys did a great job of staying out of the penalty box, only drawing one two minute penalty in the game.

The game was played in Ironwood for the home fans of the Hurley, Wis. players on the Ashland team. The Ore Dockers are a co-operative team with Ashland, Hurley and Washburn high schools.

“We have a tough week ahead of us, with games at Hancock on Tuesday, and back home with Houghton on Thursday,” said Wadge.

Both of the upcoming games this week, return the Flivvers (9-8) to Great Lakes Hockey Conference action.
