Mountaineers win 81-41

IRON MOUNTAIN – Foster Wonders scored 26 points and Iron Mountain’s offense continued to hum along on high octane, dropping Manistique 81-41 in Mid Peninsula boys basketball Thursday.

The state-ranked No. 2 Mountaineers (9-0) have now outscored their opponents 245-119 over the past three games, winning each by 35 points or more.

Once again by halftime, the Mountaineers left no doubt about the outcome of the game, leading Thursday’s contest by 37 at the break. Wonders dumped in 17 of his 26 in the second quarter alone.

“It was a good game,” IM head coach Harvey “Bucky” Johnson said. “It was a real good first half for us, and everybody got to play.”

Twelve Mountaineers made the scoresheet. Others in double figures included Marcus Johnson with 13 points and eight assists, and Jake Dumais with 11 points.

Mark Block’s nine points paced the Emeralds.

The Mountaineers head to Negaunee Tuesday in a clash of unbeaten squads, ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the U.P.S.S.A poll. The Miners (9-0) topped Gladstone 78-61 Thursday evening.
