North Central’s girls blow out Cougars 74-39

EBEN — It didn’t take the North Central girls too long to gain control here Friday night as they cruised to a 74-39 basketball triumph over the Superior Central Cougars.

The Jets led 17-8 after the first quarter and 38-13 at halftime in this Skyline Central Conference contest.

“It took us about four minutes to get going, then we pressed for a while and got the lead and took the press off,” said Jets’ coach Lee Vincent. “Everybody played pretty good on offense.”

Alex Neville scored a season-high 19 points for the Jets (6-3 overall, 6-2 SCC). Andie Arsenault and Jaiden Fleetwood scored 15 apiece and Bree Arsenault had 12. Elizabeth Molag paced the Cougars (0-9 overall, 0-6 league) with 17 points. Emma Rutter added 10.

“Alex had a good game,” said Vincent. “Everybody got a lot of playing time. We had nobody to guard their tall player (Molag). We need to work a little more on defense yet.”

The Jets, who also won the jayvee contest 40-36, visit Forest Park Friday. The Cougars host Republic-Michigamme Monday.
