North Dickinson girls improve to 7-1

POWERS — A Skyline Conference game that was tied at the end of one quarter and saw the home team leading by a narrow two-point margin at halftime ended in favor of visiting North Dickinson 55-35 over North Central Friday night.

The Nordics, who have won their seventh straight game, improved to 7-1 on the season.

“In the first half we had 10 unforced turnovers from trying to do things too quickly,” said Nordics head coach Kirk Mattson. His Nordics outscored NC 36-14 in the second half.

ND had three players in double figures on the night, with sophomore Ashton Hord leading the way with a game high 19 points. Brianna Smith added 11, while Skye Ledzian chipped in 10.

“Outstanding defense again tonight, NC is a tough place to play, but our girls were ready. Coach Lee (Vincent) always has his girls ready to play, and I’m very excited about winning there,” Mattson said.

North Central, who falls to 4-3 on the season, were led in scoring by Jaiden Fleetwood with 12 points.

“Our senior leadership, has been tremendous and really stood out tonight. Skye (Ledzian), Brianna (Smith) and Hannah (Clark) are our seniors this season,” Mattson said.

ND is off until Friday when they travel to Mid Peninsula for the second matchup against the Wolverines in nine days. The Jets return to action Thursday at Norway.
