Norway girls just shy in OT

NORWAY — Norway pushed Munising into overtime before falling 50-46 in Skyline Central Conference girls basketball Friday.

Danae Anderson led the Knights with a season-high 17 points and Kassi Gyselinck added 16.

“I am proud of every one of my girls,” said Norway coach Joe Tinti. “Everyone pitched in to make this an exciting, competitive game.”

Norway, vying for its first win of the season, led 44-42 with a minute to go in regulation but Munising gained possession and forced overtime. In the extra session, the Knights had a one-point advantage before the Mustangs rallied in the final 30 seconds.

Jenna Matson led Munising with 20 points and Megan Mattson scored 19.

“Danae Anderson played with a phenomenal court presence,” said Tinti. “We had a nice offensive performance from Kassi Gyselinck. This is a learning experience for our team and is the first time we put in four solid quarters this season.”

The Norway JVs won and improved to 9-0. The Knights travel to Iron Mountain on Tuesday.
