Partello and Johnson earn ‘Heisman’ nominations

COURTNEY PARTELLO
IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School seniors, Courtney Partello and Marcus Johnson have been named Iron Mountain High School winners for the 2019 High School Heisman Award Program.
Partello is the daughter of Carrie and Burt Partello of Iron Mountain. While at Iron Mountain High School, she has participated in Key Club, Environmental Club, Tri-Hi-Y Club, Big Sister/Little Sister program, the Youth Advisory Committee, currently serving in the role of president.
In her four years of being a member of YAC, she has put in several hours of volunteer service. Recently, she successfully led over 100 high school students in asset-building activities. Serving her school and community is very important to Partello and she never leaves a job undone.
Partello has also been involved in competitive cheer, competitive dance and tennis and track while at IMHS. She is a member of the Iron Mountain High School Honor Society, has been invited to the Honors’ Celebration all four years and has consistently earned a place on the IMHS Honor Roll. She has been described by her teachers as “mature, motivated and committed to roles she takes on.”
Johnson is the son of Terri and Harvey Johnson of Iron Mountain. He has participated in Varsity Club, Key Club, Youth Advisory Committee and Student Council while attending Iron Mountain High School.

MARCUS JOHNSON
He is a member of the Iron Mountain Honor Society, an Honors’ Celebration invitee for four years, earned a consistent place on the IMHS Honor Roll and was also named the IMHS Student of the Week.
Johnson is a standout athlete, participating in golf, track, baseball, basketball and football. He has earned many accolades, most recent earning All State, All U.P. and All Conference honors in basketball and All U.P. and All Conference honors in football. Johnson was named the 2019 Hometowne Athlete of the Year.
He has volunteered a great amount of time in youth sport events and also works part-time. Johnson has been described by his teachers as “an exceptional student, passionate, driven and a true Mountaineer.”
“Iron Mountain High School congratulates these two superior academic student-athletes who have represented our student body in such a positive spirit,” said Mel Laydon scholarship administrator.
The Heisman High School Scholarship continues the legacy of the Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship, a program created in 1994 by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas in partnership with The Heisman Trophy Trust. The Heisman High School Scholarship program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes.
