IRON MOUNTAIN – Kolbe Raiche won two individual events and was part of Kingsford’s winning 200-yard medley relay team Tuesday at a home swim meet versus Marquette at Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center.

Marquette won the meet with the boys prevailing 100-69 and the girls taking a 120-50 victory. Marquette’s girls team is the defending U.P. champions.

Raiche was fastest in the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.04) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.42). He swam first with Caleb Voss, John Lundholm and Luke Sturm in the 200 relay, won with a time of 1:57.31.

“The boys had a pretty good meet,” Flivvers head coach Jim Lindstrom noted. “Kolbe had a great meet winning the 200 free and 100 fly by wide margins. He has swam U.P. qualifying time in almost every event that is available. He has been working extremely hard at practice and it shows.”

Sturm added a Flivver victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:58.01. He was second in the 200 IM (2:31.16).

“Luke, like Kolbe, is a workout animal. Those two never sit out a set and it is showing in their results,” Lindstrom said.

Voss was an individual winner in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.45.

“The boys should be in good shape heading into finals in a few weeks,” Lindstrom said.

Sydney Scott led the way for the girls team with second-place efforts in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, but the Flivvers were hampered by numbers.

“The girls did a good job against a very good team that is extremely deep,” Lindstrom said. “We have two of the girls out with injuries so that eliminated our ability to fill every race, and we do not have enough depth to replace those two.”

Anna Lundholm had a second in the 100 free and a third in the 50 free. The 200 freestyle relay of Samantha Scott, Kendall Johnson, Lundholm and Scott also added a second.

“The girls are a very young team with a lot of promise, but they are not there yet,” Lindstrom noted.

The Flivvers return to the Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center pool this afternoon, hosting Houghton.

Starting at $4.00/week.
