KINGSFORD — Despite a game-high 17 points from Gladstone center Megan Crow, Kingsford powered past the Braves 54-38 in Great Northern Conference action Tuesday night in the Kingsford Middle School Gymnasium.

It was senior night for Kingsford, as the six senior basketball players were honored, as well as the Flivvers senior cheerleaders.

“The six seniors were spectacular, Olivia Olkkonen, Brooke Kriegl, Kate Cook, Ali Doolittle, Mandy Holmes, and Maggie Strehlow. I am happy they got to finish their last home game with a win,” said Flivvers head coach Lisa Harry.

“We brought a lot of energy tonight, and we were clicking on all cylinders particularly in the second quarter scoring 21 points and holding them to nine,” said Harry.

Kriegl, who led the Flivvers with 15 points and nine assists, drained a three-pointer to end the half. “It was a huge momentum boost going into the locker room,” Harry said. Strehlow added 12 points, while Doolittle grabbed 10 rebounds in the basketball game.

“I thought our defense and rebounding was key to our win tonight. Doolittle and Cook had the assignment of fronting Crow and they did a phenomenal job. We had great help defense as well by the rest of the team,” Harry said. “We played very well. I am liking what I am seeing from every girl on this team. It’s an outstanding group of young ladies.”

Kingsford, who improves to 9-10 on the season, as a quick turn around when they travel to Ishpeming for a non-conference matchup Thursday night, to complete the regular season.

The Flivver JV team defeated Gladstone, to remain undefeated at 19-0.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Lady Mountaineers sophomore Annslee Runsat netted a game-high 18 points, but the Gwinn Modeltowners prevailed, defeating Iron Mountain 51-36 Tuesday night in a dual West PAC and Mid-Peninsula conference tilt.

Emily Curtice with 17 points, and Marissa Delmont with 14 points, led the way for the Modletowners. Claire Mongrain chipped in 11 points for the Mountaineers in the losing effort.

It was senior night at the Mountaineer gymnasium, as head coach Katelynn Grenier honored her three seniors prior to the game: Reagan Lundholm, Tori Sorensen and Maddie Sardina.

“Overall I thought the

girls played well tonight. We had a really good second and third quarter but had a hard time getting off to a good start,” said Grenier. “Gwinn is physical and we aren’t used to being that physical, so that’s something we have to adjust to better.”

Grenier noted that Runsat played well in the game and was aggressive on offense and rebounding.

“Claire (Mongrain) did a really nice job of jumping the pass tonight. She had four steals and she hit some big shots for us when we needed them,” Grenier said. “Reagan Lundholm made an appearance to shoot a layup from her wheelchair and that was my favorite moment of the night. I would like to thank Ben Olsen for allowing me to do that for my senior tonight.”

Lundholm injured her knee earlier this season. Gwinn, who improves to 13-6 on the season, travels to dual conference foe Westwood on Thursday night, to complete their regular season. Iron Mountain, slipped to 2-17 on the season and travels to Gladstone on the same night for Mid Peninsula conference action and their regular season finale.
