Kingsford offense held in check in 52-32 setback at Marquette

MARQUETTE — Behind three players in double figures, led by 14 points apiece from Maria Millado and Aspen Michelin, Marquette overwhelmed Kingsford 52-32 Friday night at Marquette Senior High School in Great Northern Conference girls basketball action.

“We struggled on offense to make shots and while we were missing shots, Marquette was burning down the nets,” said Kingsford head coach Lisa Harry.

“Then our turnovers compounded matters, and even the easy shots were not falling for us. Marquette is a big physical team and they took us out of our game. They played really well and we did not,” Harry said.

Maddie Carter added 10 points for the Redettes, who improve to 11-6 on the season. Marquette is off until traveling to Houghton on Thursday night. Kingsford was led in scoring on the night by Olivia Olkkonen with six points.

Kingsford falls to 7-9 on the season, and return to GNC action Monday night when they travel to face U.P.S.S.A No. 1 ranked Menominee.

Paige Olson netted a team high 16 points, as the Kingsford JV remain undefeated at 16-0 in edging the Redettes 44-40. The Flivver freshmen were also victorious 35-34 over Marquette.
