Mountaineers demolish Gwinn, improve to 14-0

GWINN — Iron Mountain, with Fotser Wonders and Marcus Johnson combing for 60 points, remained undefeated by belting Gwinn 83-51 Friday night in Mid Peninsula/West PAC boys basketball.

Wonders scored 35 points, while Johnson added 25. The Mountaineers were up four after the first quarter before outscoring the Modeltowners 25-5 in the second frame.

“It was a good win, the kids played hard,” IM head coach Harvey “Bucky” Johnson said.

Gwinn was led in scoring by James Harnick with 13 points, while Reid Hill chipped in 12.

The Mountaineers, who recorded 25 steals in the game, improved to 14-0 on the season. Iron Mountain has been unanimously ranked No. 1 in the first six U.P.S.S.A. polls, while remaining No. 2 in the Division 3 Michigan Associated Press Poll behind Flint Beecher.

Iron Mountain travels across Woodward Avenue on Tuesday night to face arch rival Kingsford in round two of the non-conference Twin City rivalry. The Modeltowners fell to 3-11 on the season and travel to Westwood on the same night.
