North Central boys rally to upend Norway, 75-66
POWERS — Noah Gorzinski and Carter Eichmeier each scored career-highs, and the fifth-ranked North Central Jets rallied from a nine-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to come back and stun Norway 75-66 in a Skyline Central Conference boys basketball contest Friday night in Powers.
The Knights led 56-47 entering the fourth quarter before the Jets (12-4, 12-3 SC) outscored them 18-9 in the final frame to force overtime with the score tied 65-65.
“We played the best defense we have all year in the fourth quarter,” Jets coach Mike Malone said. “We were down nine going into fourth and we gutted it out. We got that momentum swing going into overtime.”
North Central’s defense didn’t let up in the extra session, holding the Knights to just one point to complete the comeback.
“It was the best defense we’ve played all year,” Malone said. “It was fantastic. It’s always a good game against Norway.”
Gorzinski poured in a career-high 28 points, while Eichmeier hit his career-high with 14. Luke Gorzinski added 16.
“Noah Gorzinski played the best game of his career,” Malone said. “He played absolutely fantastic. He played phenomenal defense, ran the floor, and when we needed him to score, he scored. He played out of his mind. Carter Eichmeier followed that up with his best performance, too. They were both unbelievable, and then Luke just does what he does.”
Logan Parolini had a game-high 29 points for the Knights (10-6, 8-3 SC), including five triples. Kody Hendricks added 21 points.
“We played hard enough to win, but made some crucial mistakes at crunch time,” Norway head coach Jeff Gallino said. “With North Central, they are never really out of it. They are a tough team and hard to put away. Noah Gorzinski had a heck of a game for them. He made an impressive shot to force overtime at the buzzer. Parolini and Hendricks had good offensive nights for us.”
The Jets, who lost the JV game, host Munising Tuesday.
