Norway girls get second straight victory
NORWAY — With a second half offensive explosion here Friday night, the Norway Knights won their second game in a row, blasting Rapid River 60-39. Sophomore Kassie Gyselinck led all scorers with 18 points for the Lady Knights, while senior Danae Anderson netted 17 points.
“We had a-lot of missed high percentage shots in the first half but settled down in the second half. We were also able to force 39 turnovers with a few different pressure sets,” said Norway head coach Joe Tinti.
“Katlyn Hosking held her own physical in the paint the whole game against their tall post players. Another game with every single girl making an impact of the outcome,” Tinti said.
With the regular season ending on a sour note for the Rockets girls, Natalie Belanger scored 12 points for the Rockets, who dropped to 5-14 overall and 5-13 in the Skyline Central Conference.
The Rockets led 12-4 after the first quarter before the Knights rallied to tie the score at 17 at halftime, in the Skyline central Conference matchup.
“We had 20 turnovers by halftime and that was really it,” said Rockets head coach Scott Goodacre. “We’ll push past it and prepare for districts.
“It was an emotional night with many tears, but you couldn’t ask for a better ending for the seniors or Mr. Kangas,” said Tinti.
The Norway JV’s and coach Kevin Kangas won to go 19-1 and undefeated Skyline Conference champs. “A perfect way to end a 32 year coaching career for Mr. K, as he retires from our school district after this school year,” Tinti said.
The Knights (3-17 overall, 2-13 SCC) host U.P.S.S.A No. 4 ranked Calumet on Monday to begin District play.
