STAMBAUGH — Two West Iron County football players have committed to play football at the same college. This fall, Noah Thomson and Brayden Nelson are both going to play at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis.

Thomson, an inside linebacker and Nelson, a defensive end, were both named all-conference in the Iron Division of the Western Peninsula Athletic Conference in 2019. They were both also named to the All-UP Small School First Team at those same positions by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters in 2019.

Nelson, who was a team captain in 2019, was a three-year starter on offensive line, and two years at defensive end. He was a member of National Honor Society and in the Top 10% of the Class of 2020.

“Brayden has a tenacious attitude that makes him a good football player. He also made players around him better,” said Wykons head coach Mike Berutti.

Nelson started as a sophomore at center on the Wykons’ state semifinal team in 2017.

Thomson, also a team captain in 2019, was a two- year starter at tight end and inside linebacker. He led the team in tackles for the last two seasons.

“Being the Class of 2020 valedictorian, he was able to time blitzes and understand offensive tendencies very quickly,” Berutti said. “Noah is an outstanding young man, who was very cerebral and had the ability to help teammates that played alongside him.”

Thomson was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Starting at $3.50/week.
