Norway Speedway releases updated 2020 schedule

Season opener 37th annual Stateline Challenge July 3; open practice set for next two Saturdays

NORWAY — Taking a page out of NASCAR and the Daytona 500’s playbook, Norway Speedway will kick off the 2020 racing season with its biggest race of the year — the Stateline Challenge, presented by Aurora Liquors and Island Resort & Casino, on Friday, July 3. The show will also serve as the annual Kent Pearson Memorial, honoring one of the track’s legends. The rain date for the Stateline Challenge will be Sunday, July 5.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions across Michigan, the Dickinson County Racing Association was forced the juggle its season schedule, losing a pair of races in May and the entire month of June.

A pair of practices are slated for Saturday and also on Saturday, June 27. Both practices run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and social distancing is encouraged both in the pit area and in the grandstand.

Spectators will be allowed to view the practice sessions at no charge. The practices are open to cars in any and all divisions.

Spectator Eliminators will return to the third-mile, paved oval July 10 on Ford Airport/Stateline Apparel/Coleman Racing Products night. A special UTV exhibition race is set for July 17 while the popular Thirsty Whale Bar and Grill Fan Appreciation Night is scheduled for July 24.

The Norway Speedway’s Hall of Fame committee will usher in the 2020 inductees on July 31 with a bonus appearance of the vintage modifieds. Aug. 7 will see round 2 of the UTV exhibition races in addition to spectator eliminators.

Aug. 14 is set up to be a huge night with the prestigious Auto Value 50 lap late model feature. In addition, the Pavement Pounder II will usher in the Wisconsin and Michigan dirt sport modifieds in a thriller.

Aug. 21 Spectator eliminators will join the weekly program while MC Signs and Graphics and Sail-Mar Resort will sponsor the Four Banger Frenzy as it will be the four-cylinders’ night to shine on Aug. 28.

The season will wrap up with championship night Sunday, Sept. 6, presented by Island Resort Casino and the Dickinson County Fair. The rain date will be Monday, Labor Day, if needed.

Weekly divisions include Coca Cola late models, Auto Value super stocks, 141 auto stock cars and MC Signs & Graphics four bangers. Ken’s Sports sport trucks will again compete on an every-other-week basis.
