NORWAY TOWNSHIP — Vulcan’s Kris Kelly had only raced one night in the last couple of seasons up until action at Norway Speedway Friday night. Kelly and his T-K Motorsports team last competed anywhere on May 31, 2019, at Norway when they were involved in a bad in-race accident.

The former Stateline Challenge winner appeared not to miss a beat. The second-generation late model driver scored fast time and grabbed the lead on lap 17 and went on to collect the late model feature at Norway Speedway.

Kelly started 11th on the grid and bided his time through some early cautions, a pair of which took out the top two point leaders heading into the night –Ryan Hood and Dan Lindsley.

Kelly passed Robby Iverson for the lead near the halfway point and cruised to victory. Iverson took second, followed by Kingsford veteran Bruce White who posted his best finish of the year in third. Cory Cootware and Jason Wells placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Vulcan’s Adam Faull also sweated out several caution periods to capture the super stock feature.

The other three divisions for the night went green-to-checkers without a yellow. Winners were Marion, Wis. driver B.J. Schoneck in a photo finish win against Spread Eagle, Wis. Todd Schmidt in the stock car class. Kingsford’s Brent Barglind and Wausau, Wis., driver Eric Breitenfeldt scored a full straightaway win in the stock fours.

Friday night will be Thirsty Whale fan appreciation night. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.
