NORWAY TOWNSHIP — Vulcan’s Dan Lindsley passed Niagara’s Ryan Hood at the halfway point and sweated out a few caution periods to collect a full straightaway victory in the late model feature at Norway Speedway Friday night.

After a pair of early cautions, Hood, who was guest driving the 119 Coleman Racing Products car, executed a three-wide pass for the lead on lap 13. Lindsley, who started deep in the field, carefully picked his way through the pack, catching Hood a few laps later and at the halfway point ducked underneath him to grab the lead.

Lindsley was never challenged the balance of the contest and captured his first feature flag of the 2020 campaign. Hood scored an impressive second place in his first time behind the wheel in a few years. Kingsford’s Scott Stanchina, Iron Mountain’s Cory Cootware and Green Bay, Wis., visitor Tom Gee Jr. placed third through fifth, respectively.

Vulcan’s Dean Varda outraced fellow front row starter Brett Breitenfeldt of Wausau, Wis., into the lead at the drop of the green in the 35-lap B-Feature.

Upper Pine Creek’s Ryan Wender fought off a stiff challenge from second year super stock driver Adam Faull from Vulcan in the closing laps to pull off the super stock victory. Faull, who tried high and low to get by Wender, was forced to settle for second at the pay window.

Fast qualifier Tim Schultz Jr. scored third. Pembine, Wis. driver Anthony Schiefelbein recovered from an earlier caution where he was sent to the tail of the field to place fourth. Marinette, Wis., driver Kevin Peterson took fifth.

Aurora, Wis., racer Gary Thom crossed the finish line first in the 141 Auto Stock division. But Thom “broke out,” meaning he clocked a lap under the 18-second bracket. That handed the win to Norway’s Joe Ostermann, who crossed the checkers second.

Todd Schmidt of Spread Eagle, Wis., was credited with second, followed by Menominee rookie Jacob Hulsizer in third, former division champion Preston Weddle of Crivitz, Wis. who also broke out in the contest while leading, finished fourth, and Thom was credited with fifth.

Hermansville’s Dean Bellmore inherited the lead after Wausau, Wis., visitor Eric Breitenfeldt cut a tire after colliding with a lapped car. Bellmore cruised to victory in the stock four feature. Trailing at the checkers were Marinette, Wis., driver Mike Loberger, Faithorn’s Elliot Reid, Dean Bellmore’s brother Alex Bellmore and Gladstone visitor Matt Adams.

Action was red-flagged early in the night in the Coca Cola late model heat when De Pere, Wis., driver Robert Younger got loose on the front-stretch and slammed into the softwall barrier underneath the flagstand.

The impact sent Younger’s machine into a rollover. Younger escaped unhurt but his car suffered heavy damage.

Friday night, the Ken’s Sports sport trucks will be back in action. An exhibition UTV race will also be run. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. Please check the website norwayspeedway.com and the page on Facebook for further information or email ostermannjohn@hotmail.com.
