IRON MOUNTAIN — The 2020 U.P. Football All-Star Game was originally scheduled for June 27, at the Superior Dome at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, game organizer Todd Goldbeck of Xcel Sports postponed the game to Aug. 1.

With the ongoing status of the pandemic, Goldbeck was forced to make the unfortunate decision to cancel this year’s game, which would have been the 13th annual, with the first being held in 2008. Goldbeck, his wife and family made a trip nearly all the way around the U.P. from July 25 to July 30 to hand out game gear to players and coaches.

Players from all Michigan schools in the region would have been represented in the game: Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, North Dickinson, North Central, Forest Park and West Iron County. Iron Mountain assistant varsity coach Harvey “Bucky” Johnson, West Iron head coach Mike Berutti and his assistant Chris Thomson would have been coaches in the game as well.

The photos captured of the players and coaches picking up their game gear from Goldbeck will run in two segments, with the remainder to run early next week.
