Goodman-Pembine drops volleyball opener to Crandon

PEMBINE, Wis. — High school girls volleyball began on the Wisconsin side of the Menominee River Tuesday night. Goodman-Pembine began its Northern Lakes Conference season hosting Crandon at Pembine High School, falling in straight sets 3-0 (25-21,25-22, 25-20).

The Lady Patriots have a new coach this season. Nicole Millan, who was the JV coach last year, replaces Bob Grandaw, who stepped down after several years on the bench.

“In the second set, we came back from behind 10 points to bring the set within three points, but we fell short,” Millan said. “All three sets were closely contested, and the girls played very hard.”

Katelyn Nelson had 8 kills, 2 blocks, and Sierra Dettman had 4 kills. Kalli Erickson and Kassy Mazur stepped up to take setter roles this season, noted Millan.

Goodman-Pembine, who doesn’t have a JV squad, hosts Laona-Wabeno at Goodman High School on Thursday, before traveling to Florence on Friday night.

The Northern Lakes Conference teams will play 14 conference games this season.
