Marquette tennis downs Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain girls tennis team hosted Marquette on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the visiting Redettes 7-1 in non-conference action.

“While these weren’t the results we were hoping for, I’m proud of the way we fought. I believe a few matches could have gone the other way, but credit goes to Marquette for outlasting us, said Iron Mountain coach Marcus Celello.

No. 1 Singles player Claire Mongrain was the lone point the Lady Mountaineers won on the day.

“Claire played excellent. She was in a back and forth battle, and she played a smart match in order to come out on top. She can pull off just about any shot in the book, and today was a great display of her deep repertoire,” said Celello.

Iron Mountain travels to West Iron on Tuesday.

Iron Mountain’s Natalia Brown, left, and Danika Juul compete in a doubles match Tuesday at the 25 Location Tennis Courts in Iron Mountain.
