NORWAY — In a Skyline Central Volleyball matchup Thursday night, Norway defeated Forest Park 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21) in the Norway High School gymnasium.

“Tonight was a step in the right direction. The girls have been working hard and being able to finally play and have some competition has given us the insight we need,” said Norway coach Erica Harnden.

“We made some errors that I know we can improve on and the girls are determined. We’ve made some adjustments to our lineup and the girls are getting the hang of their new positions,” Harnden added. “Forest Park gave us quite a few lengthy rallies and it was nice to see the hustle through those rallies.”

The Lady Knights, now 1-1(1-1 SCC) remain home to host Iron Mountain on Tuesday.

“It is disappointing to see such a great group of girls struggle like we did tonight but unfortunately we just aren’t where we need to be yet. We struggled to keep any momentum,” said first year Trojans head coach Bobbi Jo Anderson.

“We made too many mistakes and gave Norway point after point. We did a poor job communicating and we played extremely timid, and the girls are constantly second guessing themselves on the court,” Anderson added.

Anderson also noted the she believes the young FP team would have benefited greatly from playing invitationals.

“It is a missed opportunity for us, we could have used those extra games to work through rotations and learn each other’s tendencies. We will continue to work hard. I know these girls have it in them to elevate their game and have a good season,” Anderson said.

The Trojans are 0-2 (0-2 SCC) and return home to host SCC foe North Central on Tuesday.

Forest Park stats:

Rayven Jacobson 8 assists

Megan Bucek 1 Kill 2 Assists

Maddie Divine 1 Dig 1 Assist

Gracie Peterson 1 block 4 kills, 3 assists
