Westwood edges Kingsford, 5-3

KINGSFORD — Another afternoon of girls tennis took place at the Kingsford High School Tennis Facility, with the host Flivvers taking on Westwood in a non-conference matchup. The Lady Patriots defeated Kingsford 5-3.

“Overall I’m seeing an improvement in every player,” said Kingsford head coach Tracy Rutter. “Win or lose, if they are giving their best, I’m proud of them. No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles lost with a hard fought tie breaker set. Very proud of the determination they had, fighting to win but fell short.”

Rutter noted that the wind was definitely a factor, something that can’t be controlled. She also noted that Westwood is always a tough opponent.

“What we can take away from today is to learn from the lost points, mistakes and set those negatives to positives for the next meet,” Rutter said.

Kingsford remains home to host Great Northern Conference foes Escanaba on Thursday and Marquette on Monday.
