Knights JV gridders undefeated at 2-0
NORWAY — In a West PAC Conference crossover JV football game on Sept. 24, Norway defeated Houghton 14-8 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Houghton opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 25-yard touchdown pass on a broken play. The conversion run was good to give the Gremlins an a 8-0 lead that they took into halftime.
Norway got on the board in the third quarter when Wyatt Spade snared a 26-yard touchdown reception from Michael Peterson. Peterson’s two-point conversion was good to tie the game at 8-8.
Peterson’s 6-yard touchdown reception from Spade in the fourth quarter gave the Knights a 14-6 lead. Kyle Napientek converted a critical 4th down and 6 to keep the drive alive.
Carson Chartier and Alex Ortman recorded interceptions and Blake Dishaw blocked a punt.“This season has been a lot of fun thus far,” said coach Chris Berndt after the win.
Game 1 of the season was a dominant performance for the Knights, defeating Wes PAC Iron Division foe West Iron County 28-0 on Sept. 17.
Michael Peterson’s 15-yard touchdown run, was followed up by a Tyler Neuens conversion to take a 8-0 lead.
The Knights took that lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Neuens’ 57 yard touchdown run and conversion gave Norway a 16-0 lead. Also in the third quarter, Alex Ortman hauled in a 9-yard touchdown reception from Wyatt Spade, to take a 22-0 lead.
In the fourth stanza, Spade scored on a 19-yard touchdown run to make the score 28-0.
“I’m proud of our effort and enthusiasm versus the Wykons,” Berndt said.
Norway (2-0) hosts Bark River-Harris today at 5:30 p.m.
