Burgoon continues hockey career with Lower Peninsula all-star team

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson Area Hockey Association alumnus and Iron Mountain High School sophomore Aziza Burgoon played in the CCM girls hockey tournament with Kalkaska K-Stars Nov. 13-15 in Detroit.

A K-Stars team spokesman stated that it was great weekend for the girls, and the team is currently ranked No. 1 in Michigan and No. 4 nationally among 19U girls Tier 2 teams.

The K-Stars ended up winning four and losing two on the weekend, with both losses coming against Tommy Chicago, Minnesota, which won the tournament, out of 15 teams in three divisions. Teams from as far away as Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina competed.

Burgoon is one of six girls from the U.P. on the K-Stars roster. The others are: Kaitlyn Williams, Ishpeming; Kensey Micolo, Sault Ste. Marie; Kallen Micolo, Sault Ste. Marie; Maddie Hoornstra, Sault Ste. Marie and Paris Wegleitner, Marquette.
