Mongrain, Julian named IMHS’s 2020 Heisman award nominees

CLAIRE MONGRAIN

IRON MOUNTAIN — Seniors Claire Mongrain and Blake Julian have been named Iron Mountain High School nominees for the 2020 High School Heisman Award Program.

Claire Mongrain is the daughter of Rodney and Lauri Mongrain of Kingsford. While at Iron Mountain High School, Mongrain has participated in Spanish Club, Key Club, and Varsity Club; currently serving in the role of president. Claire volunteers through Key Club and also in her church.

Her love of sports is evident as she has been involved in tennis, basketball, and softball while at IMHS. She has served as captain of all three of these sports at various times throughout her high school career. In addition, she has achieved numerous milestones alongside her teammates.

These include all-conference first team in softball, and all-state and all-U.P. first team in tennis. She has also been chosen as Division 3 U.P. Tennis Player of the Year in 2020.

Mongrain is a member of the Iron Mountain High School Honor Society and has been an IMHS Honors Celebration attendee. She has also consistently earned a place on the IMHS Honor Roll. Mongrain does a co-op at Systems Control and works part-time for TDS Pharmacy.

BLAKE JULIAN

Blake Julian is the son of Paul and Sheila Julian of Iron Mountain. Julian has participated in Key Club, Youth Advisory Committee, Youth in Government, Student Council, Environmental Club, Robotics, and Varsity Club. He has attended both the Youth Leadership Conference Workshop and the Annual Youth Asset Celebration Leadership Conference.

Julian was a member of the U17 Legion Baseball 2018 State Tournament Champions and was MVP Pitcher. He also served as Iron Mountain High School baseball team captain for three years. Julian also participated in JV and varsity basketball, varsity football and tennis while a IMHS student. In addition, his academic performance is strong.

Julian has consistently earned a place on the IMHS honor roll and attended IMHS Honors Celebration. He is also proud to be a Red Cord blood donor. He works a job outside of school and volunteers his time often for numerous community events.
