Unbeaten Reed City ends Flivvers’ season
REED CITY — In a MHSAA Division 5 playoff football game, the Kingsford Flivvers’ 2020 season came to an end with 32-14 loss to undefeated Reed City on Saturday afternoon.
Kingsford got off to a good start, with running back Ben Rumpf reaching the end zone on the first drive, less than five minutes into the game. Kingsford’s 7-0 lead held up to the 8:15 mark of the second quarter, when the Coyotes took the lead for good at 8-7.
Reed City’s running game was simply too much for the visiting Flivvers to contain, as they amassed 325 yards of their 405 total yards on the ground. Coyotes running back Noah Jones rushed for three of the team’s touchdowns.
“Today was a tough loss, we definitely had our chances,” Kingsford head coach Mark Novara said. “Reed City was big and physical up front and we had a hard time stopping them.”
Kingsford’s other touchdown in the football game came late in the second quarter, as junior quarterback Mike Meneguzzo threw a 12-yard pass to junior wide receiver Zach Person. The prior play, Meneguzzo completed a pass to Chris Corollo that set up the touchdown strike.
Kingsford finished the season at 4-3 and ranked as the No. 3 team in the final 11-player poll of the Upper Michigan Sportswriters and Sportscasters for the season.
“With all of the ups and downs of this season, I feel this program is moving in the right direction,” Novara said. “Our seniors are a great group, and they will be missed. They’ve put a ton of time in and put us on the right track to be a high-level football program again.”
