Brewers sign Gold Glove 2B Wong

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a two-year deal with free-agent second baseman Kolten Wong, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Wong, a two-time Gold Glove winner, has played his entire career for the St. Louis Cardinals. The reported deal will pay Wong $18 million over two years with an option for a third year that could add $8 million.

The deal is pending a physical and has not been announced by the Brewers. It presumably allows the Brewers to move second baseman Keston Hiura to first base, said Journal Sentinel writer Tom Haudricourt.

Wong, a first-round draft pick in 2011 out of the University of Hawaii, batted .265 in 53 games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with a .350 on-base percentage and .326 slugging percentage. In 852 games with the Cardinals, he batted .261 with 53 homers.

Starting at $3.50/week.
