Buzzer-beater sends Forest Park to victory over West Iron
IRON RIVER — Gavin Rintala’s last-second triple from the corner lifted Forest Park past West Iron 41-39 in boys basketball Monday.
The Trojans (2-0) battled back from a 25-12 halftime deficit.
“It was a great team win,” said Forest Park coach Kurt Lehmann. “Obviously a huge shot by Gavin but it took a total team effort to get there and that was exciting to see.”
Keall Emmers led Forest Park with 10 points and Rintala scored nine.
West Iron was paced by Nathan Lundin’s 15 points. Justin Nelson chipped in 11.
The Wykons (2-2) converted just five of 12 free throws, with five of the misses coming on the front end of one-and-ones, said coach Dan Schive.
Gavin Johnson finished with six points and seven rebounds, while teammate Tommy Showers had five points and seven boards. Emmers had five steals.
