CALUMET -- Iron Mountain senior guard Foster Wonders poured in 36 points as the Mountaineers powered past Calumet 77-34 in the boys basketball season opener Monday.
Wonders, who had 20 points at the half, also snared eight rebounds in the West PAC Conference matchup.
"It was our first game of the year, our first go with contact, but over all it was a good win," said said Mountaineers veteran head coach Harvey "Bucky" Johnson. "Calumet is young and inexperienced. I am happy we got the win to start the season."
Johnson reported that Iron Mountain was 30-61 -- or 49% -- from the field.
"We are replacing four starters from last year, but we have good athletes. We're a work in progress and we hope to get better with each game," Johnson said. "We out-rebounded them and we also had minimal turnovers."
Iron Mountain (1-0, 1-0 West PAC, 0-0 Mid Pen) hosts non-conference foe and longtime rival Norway tonight. The Mountaineers host West PAC and MPC foe Gwinn on Friday night.
Iron Mountain also won the JV game over the Copper Kings.
