Iron Mountain drains 10 treys, conquers Westwood
Two conference crowns clinched as Wonders scores 35; Brown nets 14
WEST ISHPEMING — Behind a double-double of 35 points and 12 rebounds from Foster Wonders, Iron Mountain slammed Westwood 72-45 here Thursday night.
With the win, IM improved to 13-0 and clinched both the West PAC and Mid Peninsula Conference titles.
Ricky Brown chipped in 14 points, with 12 of them coming from behind the 3-point arc.
“Coming off our big victory Tuesday night versus Escanaba and having to travel to Westwood, tonight was a good team win,” said Iron Mountain head coach Harvey “Bucky” Johnson.
The contest was a 3-point game after one quarter, but the Mountaineers extended their lead prior to the intermission.
“They (Westwood) cut our 13-point halftime lead to five points in the third quarter, but we had a good offensive spurt in the end of the third quarter which broke the game open,” Johnson added.
IM was 10-19 from 3-point land for 53% and 25-44 overall for a 57% field goal effort.
Zach Carlson led the Patriots with 18 points, while Zachary Beckman added 13 points.
The Mountaineers return to action Tuesday as they travel to West Iron County.
Iron Mountain won the JV game as well, and clinched the West PAC Conference JV championship.
