Iron Mountain’s Johnson joins Bay Norse squad
ESCANABA — The Bay College Norse men’s basketball team returns to action Saturday, hosting Bryant and Stratton College of Wauwatosa, Wis., at 3 p.m. Eastern time.
The Norse (6-11) have five games remaining on their regular season schedule, including the Quality Inn & Suites Men’s Classic in Escanaba on March 20-21.
After recovering from a concussion suffered in practice, freshman Marcus Johnson of Iron Mountain played his first game for the Norse on March 3, scoring 16 points in a 73-52 win over Finlandia.
On Sunday, in Minnesota, Bay College fell 73-71 to Rochester Community and Technical College.
Matt Wagner, a sophomore guard from Marinette, Wis., is pacing the Norse offense, averaging 16.8 points per game, while sophomore wing Chris Dobessi of Detroit has scored 12.3 points per game.
Other key contributors include Jaden Janke of Dollar Bay and his younger brother Ashton Janke. Both are freshmen.
The Upper Peninsula is represented as well by Joe Gibbs, a sophomore from Gladstone; Tyler Sundling, a freshman from Rapid River; Marcus Harris, a sophomore from Brimley; and Tristan Masuga, a sophomore from Cedarville.
… The Bay Norse women’s team will play at 1 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, also hosting Bryant Stratton. The Norse (4-9) roster consists mainly of players from the U.P., including Bree Arsenault of Hermansville, Lauryn Bloniarz of Perronville and Hannah Clark of Iron Mountain.
