KINGSFORD — Sophomore point guard Nick Nora led all scorers with a career-high 33 points as Kingsford slipped past Great Northern Conference rival Menominee 80-75 in overtime here Monday night.
Each team had three players score in double figures, with Aiden Bellisle netting 24 points to lead the Maroons.
“We started out with a pretty good first half defensively until the last two minutes where they took the lead at the half,” said Kingsford head coach Dan Olkkonen. “But we came out ready in the 3rd quarter going on a 9-0 run and gaining some momentum.”
The Flivvers had a chance to win in regulation, leading by three when Aiden Bellisle hit a trey at the buzzer to put it in OT.
“Nick Nora had his best night as a Flivver point guard, dishing out eight assists to go with his big scoring night. Seniors Cole Bracket and Andrew Paupore did a great job leading and Brody Kopp was huge on the inside. (Mike) Meneguzzo and (Danny) Weber were also tough for us on both ends” Olkkonen added. “It was a great team win.”
In the JV game, the Flivvers defeated the Maroons 65-59. Kingsford’s Cole Myllyla and Eli Beal of Menominee each scored a game-high 19 points. Brock Murphy with 15 points and Connor Coduti with 14, were also in double figures for the Maroons.
Charlie Christesen added 12 points, and Ben Trevillian chipped in 11 for the Flivvers.
In the freshmen game, Cardell Morton poured in 26 points as Kingsford cruised past Menominee 46-33.
The Flivvers travel to Escanaba on Friday night for a rematch with the U.P.S.S.A No. 1-ranked Eskymos.
