IRON MOUNTAIN – Kingsford swimmers split against Houghton here Thursday, with the girls team chalking an 81-76 victory. Houghton’s boys prevailed 103-50.

Adelaide McRoberts and Samantha Scott each posted to wins for the Flivvers. McRoberts took the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly, while Scott was first in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley. Maggie Menghini added a win in the 500 freestyle. The relay team of McRoberts, Scott, Sydney Scott and Anna Lundholm triumphed in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle.

“This was a much better performance than they had last Tuesday at Negaunee,” Flivvers head coach Jim Lindstrom said. “We had some of the top times of the year in this meet.”

Lindstrom noted the Haliauna Kusmitch took of the most time, 18 seconds on her two races, and he said Maggie Menghini was just trying to qualify in the 500 but ended up swimming her best time ever.

“Adelaide McRoberts is maintains her dominance in high school,” Lindstrom continued. “The freshman is so far undefeated while usually winning her races by a wide margin.”

On the boys side, Kaden Matuszewski was a double winner, claiming the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

“In his second year Kaden has really become a force on the team,” Lindstrom said.

Chase Carlson (50 free) and Zane Cahee (100 breaststroke) added seconds.

“The boys also had a much better performance than last time,” Lindstrom said.

Kingsford hosts Marquette on Tuesday.
