Mountaineers score tennis victory

IRON MOUNTAIN — Sweeping all four singles matches, Iron Mountain defeated Ishpeming 5-1 in boys tennis Wednesday.

“It was nice to be able to come out here and pick up a win,” said Mountaineers coach Marcus Celello. “After a rough first meet last week, I’m proud of the way the guys kept their heads high. We are a young team, so there will be some growing pains, but we are having fun and working hard to improve.”

The singles matches were won by No. 1 David Juul, 6-2, 6-1, over Jack Waananen; No. 2 Brenden LaPoint, 6-0, 6-0 over Landen Kiviniemi; No. 3 Kurt Ryan, 6-2, 6-4 over Logan Hurkmans; and No. 4 Kaden Sheldon, 6-2, 6-1 over Levi Giroux.

Iron Mountain’s No. 1 doubles, Lucas Kassin and Andrew Larsen, notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Beau Mager and Connor Mager.

Ishpeming won No. 2 doubles by forfeit.

Iron Mountain (1-1) travels to Kingsford today and will host Gladstone on Monday.
