North Dickinson’s Hord named All-UP 1st team

MARQUETTE — North Dickinson junior Ashton Hord was a first-team choice in Division 4 in the 2021 All-U.P. girls basketball selections announced Friday by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
The group met Wednesday in Marquette for the 46th annual selection meeting.
Hord, a 5-foot-4 point guard, averaged 19 points, 5.7 rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. She was a unanimous selection to the Skyline Central Conference first team, receiving votes for conference player of the year. She was also an SCC all-defensive team selection.
Fellow unanimous SCC selection, senior Andie Arsenault of North Central, was a second-team All-U.P. selection in Division 4. Arsenault averaged 21 points per game for the Jets.
Area players receiving honorable mention in Division 1-3 were MacKenzie Clifford of Norway, Christina Glodowski of Kingsford; Claire Mongrain and Annslee Runsat of Iron Mountain; and sisters Danica and Jordan Shamion of West Iron County. Earning honorable mention in Division 4 were Lea LaChapelle of Forest Park and Micah Lindholm of North Dickinson.
Unanimously named Ms. U.P. Basketball was Escanaba forward Nicole Kamin, a senior. The Grand Valley State recruit finished the season with a stat line of 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots per game. She was also an 86% free throw shooter.
Joining Kamin as unanimous selections to the Dream Team were seniors Emma Anderson of Menominee and Eli Djerf of Calumet. Fellow senior Elise Besonen of Ewen-Trout Creek was also a Dream Team selection, as well as Negaunee junior center Alyssa Hill.
The Michigan Associated Press girls All-State basketball selections will be released each evening, one division at a time, beginning Monday. The All-U.P. boys selections will be published Saturday, April 24.
