NORWAY -- Norway sophomore Kali Stanchina pitched six innings and belted a solo home run as Norway defeated Florence 11-5 in non-conference softball action Thursday night at Marion Park.
"The girls hit the ball well tonight. They played well overall, despite adverse weather conditions," said Norway head coach Bob Bal. "They put the ball in play and forced Florence to make plays."
Hannah Burklund went 3-3 from the plate, with 2 RBI's. The sophomore also pitched the top of the 7th inning for the Knights, who improved to 3-0 (2-0 Skyline) on the season.
Donna VanHolla scored two runs, while cracking a double for Norway.
Stanchina recorded four strikeouts while earning the win.
Florence's Sidney Tomczak toed the mound for the first four innings. Offensively, Victoria Peterson had a triple and Isabella Millan a double for the Ladycats.
Both teams return to action this afternoon with doubleheaders. Norway hosts non-conference foe Kingsford, while Florence will have their home opener against non-conference rival Niagara.
