Erickson’s single lifts Flivvs past Maroons
QUINNESEC — Connor Erickson’s single scored Nolan LaVarnway in the bottom of the seventh inning as Kingsford defeated Menominee 7-6 in high school baseball at Quinnesec Field.
Trailing 3-0, the Flivvers scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Monday. Menominee tied the game 6-6 in the top of the sixth, thanks to a two-run fielder’s choice and a passed ball.
The Flivvers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh after an intentional walk of Riley Juneau.
“Connor Erickson singled on a 0-2 count, scoring Nolan LaVarnway for the game-winning run,” said Kingsford coach Matt LaLonde.
Sawyer Pugh started on the hill for Kingsford. He went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out one. Henry McRoberts came in to get the win, giving up three runs on three hits, walking one and fanning two.
Menominee scored two runs in the second inning with the help of a two-run error, and added one more in the top of the fourth.
Seven of Kingsford’s 10 hits came in the six-run fourth. Flivvers batters contributing to the big inning included Carter Kreski, Nathan Bousley, Juneau and LaVarnway, all knocking in runs.
LaVarnway went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense. Pugh, McRoberts and Hunter Skoglund also had hits.
The Flivvers travel to Houghton on Thursday.
