Flivvers sweep twin bill from Maroons

KINGSFORD -- In Great Northern Conference action, Kingsford swept a doubleheader from Menominee, 14-4 and 14-2, Thursday afternoon at Lodal Park.
"We had a slow start in the first few innings with some errors in the field, and were slow to get our bats going. But we recovered and finished strong," said Kingsford head coach Corissa Rice.
In game one, Flivvers senior Teagan Petschar went 3-4 from the plate, with 2 RBI's. Delaney Cram, Kylie Mitchell and Macy Holmes all added 2 RBI's as well for Kingsford.
Allie LaVarnway stole three bases, and Mitchell and Cram each cracked a double.
Holly Richer toed the mound in game No. 1, going five innings, fanning six, walking none, while allowing four hits.
In game two, Lizzy Cross cracked a team-leading three hits, while Holmes, Cram and Claire Phillips each had two hits. Cram recorded 3 RBI's while Mitchell, Phillips and Petschar each had 2 RBI's.
Elaina Bortolini pitched six innings, walking two and whiffing three.
"Allie LaVarnway continues to be a leader on the field taking away base hits with great defensive plays. Her focus and movement on the field is a highlight right now," Rice stated.
The Flivvers are one of four teams playing at Lodal Park this morning. Rapid River, Marquette and Norway will join the Flivvers, with each team getting to play two games, beginning at 9 a.m.
