Kingsford’s Solda medalist in GNC meet at Pine Grove

IRON MOUNTAIN — Kingsford senior Matt Solda was a double medalist on Monday, as Kingsford hosted a Great Northern Conference 9-hole golf event, and an 18-hole match at Pine Grove Country Club.
Solda shot a 38 on the front nine in the GNC portion of the 18 holes, slipping past co-runners-up Brady Badker of Menominee and Brock Taylor of Marquette. Solda, Taylor and Badker tied for medalist in the 18-hole portion with the trio each shooting a 79.
The Flivvers finished fourth as a team in the GNC portion of the day, shooting a 183. Jack Perpich carded a 44, Troy Watt was next with a 47 and Lance Harry with a 54 rounded out the Flivvers lineup.
Marquette, who shot a 331 overall, was the low scorer in the GNC portion, with a 164.
Perpich came in with an 88 after 18 holes, followed by Watt with a 91 and Harry with a 100 for Kingsford.
Iron Mountain joined the five GNC teams in the 18-hole event, and shot a 419 as a team.
Ricky Brown shot a team-low 81 for IM, followed by Brett Ramme with a 102, Gabe Celello with a 106 and Andrew Person with a 130.
On the girls side for the GNC portion, a trio of Menominee players finished in the first three spots, with Madison Derusha carding a 43 to finish as medalist. Josie Hofer shot a 44 for the Maroons, and finished as runner-up, while Jenna Nolde carded a 45.
Derusha, Hofer and Nolde finished in the same order overall after 18 holes, with an 87, 88 and 90, respectively.
The Flivver girls shot a 215 in the 9-hole portion of the event, with Grace Maki carding a team-low 47. Maggie Menghini shot a 51, while Lily Wilcox shot a 57 and Amanda Yu and Bryonna Sanders each carded a 60.
Overall, the Kingsford girls shot a 462, with Maki carding a 99, Menghini a 113, Wilcox a 124, Yu a 126 and Sanders a 133.
The Iron Mountain girls shot a 505 as a team in the 18-hole event, led by Rediet Husing with a team-low 102. Lily Verrette was next with a 110, while Bella Rosenthal came in with a 135. Lulu McCash’s 158 rounded out the Mountaineer girls’ lineup on the day.
