Knights capture Negaunee Invitational

West Iron’s Thomson is medalist, Norway’s VanHolla runner-up

CHAMPION — The Norway boys took team honors and West Iron’s Nathan Thomson was the medalist at the Negaunee Invitational golf tournament held Tuesday at Wawonowin Country Club in Champion.

Norway, posting a team score of 320, easily downed second-place Kingsford, 347. Other scores were Westwood, 363; Negaunee, 387; and West Iron, 418.

Thomson edged Norway’s Jeffrey VanHolla by one stroke for medalist, carding a 76. Other top finishers were Norway’s Carson Chartier, 79, followed by Matt Solda of Kingsford and Drew Anderson of Norway, tied at 81.

Also on the links for Kingsford were Jack Perpich, 86, who placed eighth overall; Troy Watt, 87; and Daniel Maki, 93.

On the girls side, Westwood landed team honors with a 487, while Negaunee’s Rachel Niskanen was medalist at 90.

Kingsford and West Iron fielded incomplete teams. West Iron’s Madison Berutti finished third individually with a 100 followed by teammate Kya Dallavalle at 117.

Amanda Yu led the Flivvers at 124, good for eighth place, followed by Amy Reath, 130, and Bryonna Sanders, 133.
